I have no doubt that what they say about the 350 is true. No doubt it has proven itself. Maybe the same can be said of the LS engines. 'Cos I want a modern engine with electronic fuel injection and timing chain, etc... But what about Ford? Won't I be able to get the same kind of bang for my bucks? | | | Re: Engines - Ford vs GM | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! Lots of stuff available for them. | | | Re: Engines - Ford vs GM | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 18,552 Likes: 137 Supreme Master | Supreme Master Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 18,552 Likes: 137 | quote=Superbeast]If you want to go with a Ford then you would prolly be best using a 5.0 out of a newer mustang. What would you go with if you had a VW??? | | | Re: Engines - Ford vs GM | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 360 enthusiast | OP enthusiast Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 360 | I just saw the new Green Hornet movie. I was impressed to hear that they used a Chevy ZZ / 454 custom V8 for the engine. Being a Chrysler Imperial, I thought they'd use a Hemi engine. The noise of a Hemi would be awesome on a car like that. But I now see that when someone thinks replacing the engine in a car, the first choice is always a Chevy (for the obvious reasons stated before ). Do Ford V8s and Hemi V8s have a reputation of being a hassle to sort out and everyone chooses Chevy V8s just for peace of mind??? | | | Re: Engines - Ford vs GM | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,170 old hand | old hand Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,170 | Movies use what the producers are able to 'acquire'. If you saw a Bowtie on screen then the motors were donated by GM.
It is the rule of thumb, but not always the case, Can you imagine "The Italian Job" with Alfa's instead of Mini's? The producers opted to pay for Mini's even though a fleet of Alfa's were 'offered'.
Did you look at the link I posted? Do what Newman did. The ZF will solve a ton of problems. | | | Re: Engines - Ford vs GM | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 360 enthusiast | OP enthusiast Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 360 | The producers opted to pay for Mini's even though a fleet of Alfa's were 'offered'.
I'm glad they did. You cannot have the Italian Job without Minis... Movies use what the producers are able to 'acquire'. If you saw a Bowtie on screen then the motors were donated by GM.
Come to think of it all the other cars were GM ones... some old model Suburbans, etc... but GM cars nontheless.. perhaps thats why. I'm guessing the only reason they used a Chrysler Imperial is because it was the original Green Hornet car and they wanted to keep the fans happy Did you look at the link I posted? Do what Newman did. The ZF will solve a ton of problems. I didn't have time to look at it properly... but it was interesting to see the Ford 305 in that bug... I'm going to look at better now. What is the ZF???? | | | Re: Engines - Ford vs GM | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,170 old hand | old hand Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,170 | Ford did not make a 305, that was a 351.
ZF is the company that make the transaxle. | | | Re: Engines - Ford vs GM | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 360 enthusiast | OP enthusiast Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 360 | Ford did not make a 305, that was a 351. Sorry...my bad. I mean't 302.. ... But yeah I got through the article properly... that 351 motor looks awesome... ZF is the company that make the transaxle. Keep that in mind... | | |
