the dog can pee on that tire all it wants - i have a set of centerlines and 245/60's to go on the front...!

i've got to swap in an overdrive trans and cruise control, and get a slider extender...

it's really clean, and just a couple wrinkles to pull out... i can't wait to go get it...!

so, it's just under 3 weeks and i'll be getting my new van.. i can't wait - i've already picked up a few things for it, like some lights off of ebay, and a Venturi Vent...

that's right - a real NOS Venturi that i found and received in less than a week...

links to lights: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230568933424&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT ; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230568939674&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT

from the first link i got 4 green ones, from the second link i got 20 amber ones... i've got some plans for them...

my vent:

ok... ok... ok...

in just a week i'll be getting my new van... i've been losing some sleep as what i want to do in the back... i love the dinette look, but i'mnot sure how my 5 year-old son is going to like riding around sitting basically above the wheel wells...

i did get something from the Great Stan to help with the problem of wide tires/flares and a sliding door... oh yeah...!

Hey all, been busy making up at work and with the wife... Haven't had a chance to pull the dog house off yet, but she turns over and tries so it could all be in the distributor, or in the timing chain (the guy i bought it from said he just had one installed...) according to thebuild paper under the hood it only has a 305 so i think i know where a tbi'd 350 is hiding...!

It's completely solid - the only rust is a couple dents that broke the paint, and a strip of surface that's at the bottom of the dog house... It's a factory non a/c van from the south,i thought that was odd...

John, those seats are waiting for you too...!

no pics of this, but i've gottenthe van towed to work so i can play with it on lunch and after work hours...

i got a raunchy carpet out of it, nd tossed, and i found some rot directly in front of the passenger seat - it had rubber floor lining, but with damn carpet padding (GREAT IDEA GM!!!!!!!!!!!!) and that was still wet when i picked it up... so, i've got a little rust repair to deal with - nothing horrible - i'll grab some pics tomorrow...

i also got the dog house off and have been trying to get it to run... it will turn over and feel like it wants to catch, but won't... i pulled out some ancient 'autolite' plugs, and there's no spark at the end of the wires (there is spark at the cap)... oh, it has 'autolite professional' wires on it - yeah, a wal-mart tune up alright...

so i'm going to put MSD & AC Delco products from Summit on when they arrive tomorrow or Thursday and go from there...

it is getting fuel to the carb - it flooded the plugs...

I pulled the rest of the rubber mat out of the blue Dodge on Monday. The van has been in the garage for, what, like 2 months and it still had a puddle under it and the insulation was soaked.

I actually always had good luck with autolite parts as well, maybe they were just old and crusty.

Good luck with your build.

All the brands put some kind of insulation /sound deadner under the rubber mats.
With no sunroofs in that van you need to find where the water is coming from.
Not to scare you but Mid 3rd gen GM vans had a rust issue at the bottom of the windshield frame.....

i've got a couple pics here, showing the rust and i found, i think, where water is coming in from- that'll be the last pic...

the driver's side is perfectly fine... Mill supply has this panel for $40 so i'll either buy it from them or grab it off of Rosalyn...

That don't look so bad.My buddy's 78 had huge holes. We had to put down new metal and relocate the passenger seat about 2.5 inches back.

yeah, it should be an easy fix - i was just surprised at the rust whereas the rest of the van is great...!

i' going to put swivels in the front, so i'll be pulling both bases to completely cover the floor...

ok, now i know why it won't run...

that's the #4 exhaust pushrod, and the intake was very loose... so either the lifter's stuck into the block from being revved to high, or the piston smacked the valve... either way - this 305's days of living in my '84 are over...

well, it's official - i'm pulling the Goodwrench 350 out of my old 86 Chevy K30 to go into my '84... the rest of the truck is destined for GA to become basically a monster truck - including 2.5 ton Rockwells and a 454, so my brother's friend told me i was doing him a favor...! SCORE...! gunna pull it sometime soon, most likely this week...

on a nice note, i got most of the 305 apart and ready to scrap, and i cleaned up the valve covers and new intake manifold (oh yeah!)... getting pretty excited...

haven't pulled the new 350 out yet (been busy working 6 days a week) but i've been playing with some other stuff...

yes, that's the venturi vent and new louvers under the valve covers...

all those bed frames i pulled out of a dumpster behnd 'big lots' (a close-out store) and i'm going to use them to frame my seats for the new interior... i've decided exactly what i want to do, and i may just build it without posting some teasing pics,or maybe just the drawings and planning i have going on... not totally sure yet...

i also got some new seats for it because the blue ones in Rosalyn are spoken for by someone else... i put those in Rosalyn today (yeah yeah, without pics!) and they're comfortable...!

The deluxe marker lights are a nice touch. There is a lengthy thread about them going on in the van sightings section.
Great color choice on the intake and valve covers! chevy

thanks man, i'm glad i finally picked up the set of them... i'll get the rest on eventually...

i haven't been able to pull the motor out of the '84 yet, so in my lunch/slow/after work time i cut down a bunch of the bed frames, and i made 1 seat so far...

it's 42" X 21" X 15" and it'll go right behind the driver's seat...

also last night (no pic yet) i picked up a wooden headboard that's got shelving and stuff on it, just need to cut it down a little bit to make it work, and it will be the 'seat back' for the above bench... i think it's really cool...

what i need to figure out next is how to keep a seat back up that's hinged... hmm...

(seat back will be hinged to stay up,but fold down to make the bed)...

if the seat back can be as tall as the bottom is wide(from front to back) make the set back the same size.Add hinges.(regular steel) door hinges will work.on the top side of the seat back add a set of legs attached with bolts and lock nuts These legs will fold back up into the angle of the frame work.
The lock nuts will allow you to tighten them just enough so the legs will pivot.Fold down and back up when not in use......

Just another little tip.If you are using a Chop Saw to cut your angle.Set it at a 45 degree angle for you rectangular and box shapes.A chop saw can cut a near perfect 45 degree angle.Way quicker/stronger than having to cope the joints.
Then the cross braces can all be straight cuts...

thanks for the tip Wookee, i'm going to go with regular steel hinges for the seat-back, and it will be the same width as the bench (42")...

i'll get to that more in the next week or 2, but tomorrow...

is engine day...! i'll post all of my pics at once (didn't take any pics of the 305's removal) but the empty engine bay, and the new 350 will be going in tomorrow... it's been so damn long, but it's almost here...!

ok, you guys will have to kick me out - i didn't take any pics of the work today... i know, i know... but my phone (AKA my camera) died on the way to the shop today and i thought i had a charger with me...

oh well...

but the new 350 is in the hole, and tomorrow on lunch i'll take some pics... maybe i'll even go put the intake on during lunch, too... then it's the distributor, plugs, wires... then some more wiring, and the starter... then i can fire it up...!

ok, time for some pictures...

i wanted to get it fired today, but ran around chasing my tail trying to get hardware and a decent tap for the intake manifold (it had a stripped thread in the water inlet)...

but i got the intake & carb on, distributor set in, and valve covers on...

need to put in plugs, starter, torque converter bolts, and fuel pump... then maybe crank her over...

still looking for a set of headers, maybe i'll get lucky...

It looks kinda like you have a bad PS motor mount, Frame side.
Almost like it bound up a little when you set the engine down, collpsed and just stayed there.
For ha ha's stick in a new one and see what happens.

Here is a couple of pictures of the mounts that where on my 77 and one of my 89.....
they all look pretty close to the same as you have dimensionally

77 mounts....

77 mounts on engine

89 PS mount

Next thing would be to try to pry the mount its self into place.starting with a flat head screw driver working up to a tapered pin......

good luck.......

not much time to post, but it's running as of today... got the motor mount issue solved as well - it was the driver's side mount - and the frame side of the passenger side was ok Wookee - just looked kinda bad (2 pry bars wouldn't move it more that about 1/8")

now i need to get some headers for it, and put the front end back together...

she'll be driven to Vantasy for sure...

LOL my new flex fan in the first pics, and old parts under it in the bottom pic...

i did also vacuum it out and cut out the bracing next to the back doors (spare and fuel neck braces)... tomorrow i'll be putting down the plywood i bought last night, and probably setting the final positions for the back seats... hopefully...

I put the driver's side mount in that was off of a van, put the long bolt through, and the passenger side slipped right in... i only lifted the driver's side of the block enough to get my 1/2" drive ratchet and 9/16" socket in there, and enough to pull the mounts out... could be 'van only' mounts - or could be enough movement out of the block... but either way, it fit perfectly...

been slowly putting the '84 together - pulled all of the lights and panels out of my '92 that i'm putting the '84 mostly together from... pulled out a ton of wire today from the '92 - most of it will be going into the '84 to run the mood lights, and map lights...

that's just the extra added stuff from Starcraft - all of the factory wiring is still in there and running along the roof... kinda scary isn't it...?

i need to clean the '84 out a little and snap some pics for you guys... it's very crowded with crap (ok, 'materials' LOL)... just never seems to be enough time...

so after pulling out all that wiring, on Monday i took a whole hour for lunch at work and started stringing up for the lights and speakers...

i'm running the center strip of plexi/LED's from the Starcraft van i have, as well as putting in the lights conversion companies usually run over windows (the long, side specific LED 'bar lighting') plus map lights... the center strip is going to be run off of the front door switches (when you open them)/headlight switch - the side 'bar lighting' is going to be run on a separate switch, and the map lights are going to be fused independently, and powered all the time...

some pics:

this shot has the overhead console

and that will house this:

which will feed this, on top of the rear passenger side cabinet:

and a couple outside shots:

small fog lights on the bottom - i have bigger, brighter orange glass ones to go on the push bar...

and i wanted a big-block, but this is ridiculous... LOL

Nice job on the lights, they look great in there. Good choice on the head unit as well. The tft touchscreens are the best IMO. chevy

i guess i could get a couple more 'recent' pics up - i put the centerlines on it that were on Rosalyn, and i picked up another tri-fold bench seat (with less blue LOL) and shelved the 'dinette' idea for the time being...

also have been making all the lights (inside) work, and making all the cabinets stationary...

i also picked up a new carpet for the van, it's black & white, kinda looks like salt & peppered... just need to cut it & put it in - i was trying to get it in for FF21, but it didn't happen so i went carpet-less... haaaaaaahahaha...

i also got a pair of 15X8 turbines, and a pair of '70 Corvette valve covers from the parts guy at work today... he said these things were in his parents' garage for 20+ years, and they sure look it... now i need to find a pair of 15X10's in the turbines to make it look sweet...!

i also got a new toy for the van off ebay - some original 'vent visors' from '77... i can't wait to put them on...

i should probably grab a pic of the carpet - i did finally get it in... the walls and insulation will be done sooner, hopefully, rather than later - going to put some OSB up and paneling over that...

Tide - those marker lights are aftermarket - i bought mine through 'Brother's Truck Supply'(http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SMADKIT) - i'm really happy with them, and they shipped very fast...

wow, i really thought i had pics of the interior up on here...

been busy driving it to really work on it much anymore - but i did pick up a roll of Johns Manville insulation (with the vapor barrier) yesterday, and i'll probably be putting it in in the next couple of days...

I bought a new carb for it a couple of weeks ago, too - a Holley 650 spreadbore... i put it on today after work, and it went pretty well... it replaced the stock 305's quadrajet; i have another pre-smog Q-jet that i think i'm going to rebuild and hold onto...

just a couple pics:

- my son playing PS2 at one show...

so late September I was driving home and had my wing windows open when a rock or something hit my passenger side window and shattered it... well, i had taped it up and said i would go to the junk yard sometime to get a new wing window... yesterday coming home from work another rock, i think, hit my DRIVER'S SIDE wing window and shattered it...!

so i went to the junkyard today...

i got both front doors off of an '88 chevy conversion that had tinted windows (hey, i was gunna do it anyway) and i also grabbed some door handles and stuff - but in a different GMC conversion i found a center table (SCORE!)...

i got the glass in the passenger side, put a new handle on my back door, and new threaded lock 'handles' (what would you call them...?!) and a set of Astro center caps, i might clean them, pain them and use them on my centerlines...

i did only a couple pictures of today's stuff... will take more tomorrow in the sun if i get a lunch break...

Gotta love those JY runs...the one's you have to make end up being the one's you're glad you made. The center caps give the wheels a finished look. cheers

thanks guys - doing little bits here and there...

took a couple pics of my new window in, and my new table... still need to get a floor base, and i'm going to make a different table top...

i also picked up about 8 or 9 pieces of paneling for free from craigslist - they're mostly cut down, but i can definitely use them all... plus i got all of my insulation in... gotta get some pics of that...

these wing windows also have chrome window channels SWEET...!

if anyone wants the table top, they can have it - just pay for shipping... the top has a couple pieces missing where the cup cut-outs are...

i found them on an astro in the yard... they look really good from far away - need to clean & repaint them...

apparently they're the same as C10 trucks/Blazers/Suburbans... of the late 80's...

i have some chrome center caps on the centerline's now - but i think i'm really diggin' the look of these caps...

yeah she has been very good to me... hopefully this will be a keeper for a very long time...

has anyone cut open a steel chevy slider to insulate it...? i have a lot more Johns Manville insulation - not enough to do the ceiling, but i was thinking of doing the slider and back doors...

i took a pic tonight of the paneling i got for free off of CL - it was in a basement of a house in a well-to-do neighborhood and they guy in the post said he had 3 full sheets and some extra pieces - it turns out to be about 10 sheets worth - i can definitely use it to do the whole van...!

it's real wood paneling too - not that MDF stuff sold now... looks like a real quality paneling...

So this year has been crazy... February started with some 'lower end' noise that i was getting - turned out to actually be my flexplate coming apart, but I didn't know that until it completely separated & wiped out the torque converter & trans in late March...

so the van was down for a week while I got another flexplate (new, from Napa - work discount) and another trans thanks to Stan (SFS60) for finding me a deal on a recently rebuilt Turbo400...!!!

so, then the van was put together and driving again...

in late April, i got laid off at work, which really sucked and hurt, but oh well - that's life i guess...

after a couple of weeks of getting my 'post employment' stuff setup, and adjusting to being home all the time i decided to put all the stuff i had saved for the van on it this summer...

so, prior to April 2012 it looked like this:

i started with a green stripe around the mid section of the van... it's rustoleum Dark Hunter Green, i had 3 cans and used them on EVERYTHING special the van got - they went a long way...!

i put my side slider, and rear pop-outs in - it was a little PITA to get a center piece from a slider with pop-outs, but other than that the conversion was smooth and easy...

ok, didn't mean to hit submit yet, but oh well...

after the pop-outs, i fixed stripped the pass. rear quarter above & below the stripe (i already stripped below the stripe) and primed & painted that, then did the rear doors...

the driver's side quarter above the stripe was stripped, primed, and repainted - need to do under the stripe though still...

i got a smoking deal on a front spoiler, so painted that and installed it before the flared boards...

and the center & lower section got custom 'webbing' in silver...

the flared running boards were tricky for me, because i didn't want to make up some brackets to make them functional (honestly, after stripping them and blocking & priming them, i didn't want anyone putting their feet on them...!!!)
so, i decided "What the Hell" and did this:

after about half an hour with a 7" grinding wheel, i cut them down and used some of the original 'glass to make up the bottoms - them put new 'glass & resin over the whole tapered section, some filler, sanding, priming and paint got this:

and added chrome trim rings to my tail lights...

all the work wasn't just on the outside either...

at various points over the winter it looked like this:

all the work wasn't just on the outside either...

at various points over the winter it looked like this:

until June(ish) it really came together:

the big cabinet, i found on CL for free - and have since sanded & re-stained it (along with the other 2 cabinets and all doors) and added black plexi-glass instead of the ever-breaking real glass...

the ceiling is all paneled now, the 2 side conversion lights are gone & replaced with vinyl-covered paneling (with the lights in them)...

the back doors now have trim around the windows, and the front door panels are different now too...

things are looking up recently - starting a new job soon and the internet's back on LOL...

hope to see many of you at VANTASY 2 next weekend...!!!

that was in my previous GMC Starcraft conversion - it was a '92, and i've seen a lot of them...

i used the whole assembly - the center wood section ties the paneling on the ceiling together, and it has LED's above the 'glass' in the center...

it's not very bright - but it's really cool... i tapped into the dome light wiring so it comes on when the doors open...

and of course, the map lights all work independently...

So after Vantasy I took out my old (almost a year) crappy carpet and replaced it with some great FREE shag from an older lady neighbor...

So, unless I come across something absolutely stupendous, my interior is 'done' for now... Needs some tweaks here and there, but is complete...

I have a 1981 Chevy G20. What size flexplate and starter did you use? I'm having some trouble with mine. I think i have a V8 305 with a 400transmission.
