Hi everyone,
I was hoping you guys could give me some advice. A couple of weeks ago I took my van out of the garage for a ride. It ran great no problems at all. The following weekend I went into the garage to start it. It would not start. When I could get it to start it ran like crap and was smoking black smoke. The other day I changed the plugs, cap, rotor, wires, and fuel filter. It started easier, ran about 10 minutes then started running like crap and the black smoke came back. It is the 4.3 TBI. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks for any help.

I had a bad temp sensor on my 87 making the TBI dump fuel like it was wide open. You really need a code scanner to properly diagnose this, otherwise you are just guessing.

I would check the choke. Sounds like it is hung up.

TBI- Throttle Body Injection- doesn't have a choke.
