Spin the blade & see what it does & if it is too loose ,replace the clutch. Good water pump . There are sum things to look at . | | | Re: over heating 350 #44531 August 03rd 2004 10:48 pm | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 66 journeyman | journeyman Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 66 | My Astro with a 350 V/8 had an electric fan mounted to radiator between engine and radiator pulling air in and a second fan between radiator and grille pushing air thru, seemed to work ok but I am not a big fan of electric fans so we changed it to a 21 inch flex fan mounted to engine, has not overheated so far.We kept the smaller fan mounted as a back up and turn it on when stuck in traffic. | | | Re: over heating 350 #44532 August 04th 2004 5:47 pm | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,866 veteran | veteran Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,866 | Did you change the belt configuration? Just a thought but maybe your water pump is running backwards? | | | Re: over heating 350 #44533 August 07th 2004 7:43 pm | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 131 member | OP member Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 131 | thanks for all the input guys...i'll have to give those a whirl...whether the van gets running right or not i will be at Super Somer 3.... | | | Re: over heating 350 #44534 August 08th 2004 2:41 am | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 985 National Truckin Board Rep | National Truckin Board Rep Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 985 | Did you have the radiator punched and cleaned before you installed it? A clogged radiator will do the same thing | | | Re: over heating 350 #44535 August 08th 2004 2:27 pm | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 960 old hand | old hand Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 960 | how new was the 350? A mech. told me to do this if I felt the cooling system was clogged. disconnect the bottom hose, take of the top hose and take out the themostat. Reconect top hose and insert good presure garden hose in filler spout. Then fill to top or until water comes out of bottom hose. keep hose running in the radiator and start and run engine until it is hot. When water runs clear again, (could take some time) radiator is clean. This will also tell you if your pump is working good......good luck with this...............Pup | | | Re: over heating 350 #44536 August 30th 2004 10:51 am | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 1,097 old hand | old hand Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 1,097 | If the water pump is spinning in the right direction and if your electric fan is pushing or pulling air in the right direction and if the stat is not in backwards Go for a new rad ! 9 times out of 10 overheating is caused by a dirty rad. | | |
