And there are many more of them out there making the purchase of the engine itself cheaper.

.....and we wouldn't beat you up!

Whoa... that's a load off my mind.. lol

So am I right in assuming that GM engines are pretty much like the Toyotas and Hondas of the American brands... Cheap and loads of aftermarket support and Fords and Hemis probably are like the Euroboxes.... more complex and difficult, but worth it when you get it right.... ? smile

Me thinks you misunderstood me....
I saying that GM engines are pretty much to the American market like Toyotas and Hondas are to the Japanese...
From what I've gathered with all the responses, GM engines are cheap, reliable and have loads of aftermarket support.
I was comparing Ford engines to being like those of European marques.... No as cheap and do not have as much support outside the main dealer... (At least that's what I've been told from responses here)... smile

Would you be upset if I said 'Triton'?? grin lol

I haven't really confirmed yet, but I'm leaning over towards the Triton.... I'm only hoping it isn't a mistake... not in the sense of fitting it in, but in the sense of weather it being reliable... I'm sure some guys who read this over here are going "Mistake".. lol

I came across it while doing a search on possible issues with the Vortec engine.

I don't know. I think a good old-fashioned SBC would be your best bet. Simple and reliable.

QUOTE from that post

"Thousands of vehicles, most from the 1999 to 2002 model years, may be affected, say the lawyers, who specialize in lemon law. They say GM is quietly buying back some of the vehicles."

In that post on that FORUM they were talking about 99-02 motors that was about the time they came out with there new design ( the Express had a bad time in the design stage),,,sure they had problems...most new designs have bugs...they fixed the problem above with resesed pistons...leaving room for the valves...get an early , pre 95 block...before they redesigned to the vortec motor.....if I can do duel wheel burn outs for 30-40 ft in a 8600 lb van you will have way more hp to put that vw down the road.....
