Pup, If you disconnect the fuel lines between the tank and the drive shaft you can use the old pump to extract the fuel from the tank before dropping it. Disconnecting the lines here also makes it much easier to drop the tank cause you don't have to worry about the lines still being connected to the tank as it lowers. These lines and connectors are usually hidden above a removable plastic shield on the drive shaft side of the tank.

WNY, Is it kinda like the rebuild kit I used to get Grumpy running again?

Found an OEM pump on ebay made by Pronto. Good price but has anyone heard of this co. I will spend the $ for a better pump if this is not. Has a life time warranty.
Also has anyone cut the floor to make the install easier?
If so how was it patched?
Is this a bad idea?
The van is old but a keeper so far so I may have nothing to loose.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Pup

I bought my pump at the local VIP auto parts, came with a warranty, and with the filter it was less than $60 I believe.

it really isn't that hard to change, I did mine in my (dirt) driveway, 2 bolts to release the straps holding hte tank, loosen some hoses, and it drops right down, had to clean some rust around the pump before opening it up so it didn't fall in the tank.

I think it maybe took me an hour?

I had maybe 8 gallons of fuel in the tank which made it slightly challenging putting the tank back in place, but not impossible. empty is better.

Oh yea, Know to feeling. I did 2 on the ground also. The 90 was the easy one. Even with the big tank. The 88, I had 2 bolts break and had to re tap to get the straps back on.
Just looking for an easier way to do it. Cutting the floor is a lot of demo work so I will do what I did last time.
Frigged weekend ahead here so I break out the Salamander, lol.
Thanks again.

Pronto is not OEM, I wouldn't trust it. The proper Delphi pump FE0115 for your 1990 is only $36.44 on the site I posted. I've seen a couple cut the floor installs done on the web and I personally can't stand them. I've done pump replacements on five Astros so far and in the future I'll continue dropping the tank to do it.

Yea your right there, a lot of demo a for hole in the floor.
Aaron, is the FEO115 the same as E3902? That's the oem #. I think I will go that route. I don't want to do this again!! lol
Just shoveled the spot out by my workshop, we got 4 inches overnight.

Where did you get that part number? Doesn't match any ACDelco/Delphi pump that goes in these vans.
