My 90 stro has had an issue since about mid Dec.
We drove to Elmira from Bingo and stopped to get gas, filled it up. It ran fine until we were on our way back. This is the first time I have filled the tank since installing a new fuel pump in summer of 08. This one has 27 gal. tank so its about $95.00 to fill it. Anyhoo, we noticed that it started skipping as if I had crap in the fuel line. Changed the filter and put injector cleaner in it but still does it when I get on it. Especially up hill. Starts and runs fine and idles ok. But at highway speed, feels like we threw a boat anchor out!! Tranny was installed in summer of '10 and everything else is or seems ok. No codes and installed new o2 censer. Is my fuel pump dying again?
Or is there another issue on the engine.
Usually when pump goes it just dies, is it weak?
She has 248.000 on her but has been well kept and starts great.
Any input?
Thanxs
Pup

sounds like your starving for fuel..
mine was like that, start and idle fine, give it gas, especially under load, miss and skip horribly.

it's possible your replacement pump is a lemon, or a large piece of crap got in the lines during the change.

That was my first thought too, another thing. . . those fuel pumps have a "sock" on the end as a filter, and i have heard of those getting clogged up and "chocking off" the fuel supply too . . . . might consider dropping the tank and pulling the pump to check that. I know it is not a easy job, but. . . . you MIGHT want to rent a fuel pressure gauge and checking pressure at the motor to see if it is up to par.

First of all thank you for all the advise on this. Can always count on my fellow vanners!
This apears what it is, the pump. I was hoping something else. As Fester said, its a rough job.
Did it on the 88 and the 90. The 90 has a 27 gallon tank. I have been running it low in anticipation of dropping it. {like having a small "boat" under there lol cry)
I have another pump but wanted to make sure. Well I have a weekend project now. lol
Thank you for your help again.
I'll let ya know how it went.

BTW - according to the many minds of AstroSafari, if it isn't a genuine GM replacement, you might want to throw it (or both) out...

i found that out the hard way twice on my old '00...

OH - brain fart - where did you get the pump that's in it now...? it's very possible that the parts store who sold it to you sold you the wrong one - '94-older fuel injected used TBI pumps which use 9-13PSI whereas '95 and newer ones had the 'spider injection' which used 55-60PSI... could be that they sold you a 'failing' newer-style pump...?

Yes, genuine ACDelco/Delphi pumps only if you plan on keeping the van. Thanks to the internet you can get them for roughly the same price as the cheap crap at the local auto parts store.

I've bought from here twice so far and they've done good by me.

I have a fuel pump reference chart here.

Thanks Aaron and WNY,
I bought the bargain basement one at advance.I should have known better than try and save a few $$. My mechanic buddy's yelled at me. And then laughed lol
I found one at the junkyard from a '94 and pulled the whole unit. I was going to install that one, but me thinks I will listen to you guys and put a new better one in.
Thanks for the link Aaron, I went and checked it out and will deal with them. Trying to run the gas out of it now so I won't have to drop a "boat" full of gas.
I'm also inspecting the lines. A pin hole in a line can have the same effect.
Well lets see what happens this weekend. I hope for good weather and easy change.
Thanks again vanners, stay tuned......

i put high pressure rubber hoses, from summit, from the tank to the motor on my '00 after i did the pumps, and after i found leaks...

you might get some life out of that used sending unit you got - if anything you can save some money buy buying only the correct 'pump' and put it into that sending unit...

guess how i know that...!?
