I'm looking for the manufacture recommended specs regarding Ignition Timing on a 1968 318 LA. I’m trying to compare several things and for the life of me I cannot locate the original recommended timing from Chrysler. Anyone have a source for this info?

What is the difference between the light and heavy, Six?

Is it truck vs. passenger, an industrial use, totally different engines or just minor differences?

Thanks

I don't know either. My guess is that the engine had a closed crankcase venilation system. ???

I believe in 68 the "clean air system" was a hose hooked to the crankcase breather instead of an open vent breather. My brother used to have a 68 Dart sedan with a slant six and the "clean air package" and the only emissions devices I can remember on that car were the PCV valve and the oil breather.

ok, I'm real close to driving up a big hill under load with my foot in it and a hand on the distributor...and waiting for some ping.
To be honest, I'm not sure what pinging sounds like. :-)

after many hours of monkeying around and trips round the block and around the block and around the block....taking measurements and making notes each time......Even had all the cops in town following me the one day, lol. (That was fun! guess I was a bit "aggressive" with it....)

I think I about have this figured out.... Performance keeps increasing... but I'm not where I want to be yet......

I'm hung up on total time. What is the recommended stock total timing? And what is a suggested non stock total timing range?

I understand all builds would differ. I'm just trying to narrow in on a range.......

Pinging sounds like a buttload of gnomes trapped in your engine whacking away with hammers really fast. You should actually experience a decrease in performance due to overadvancing the timing before you get to pinging.

Distributor recurving is a black art that must be studied before being implemented. THere are lots of intstructions on how to do it on various car sires around the web. Google is your friend.
