Most of the rest of your list I knew... are you saying soft margarine is good or bad?
What about the fish/chicken/pork/beef issue? Sugar free, and no sugar added stuff is expensive Cranberry Lite juices from Walmart are lower sugar than the usual 28 % stuff...Walmart is staring to have a good selection of House Brand Sugar free stuff... Chicken wings that are deep fried are bad, but they taste so good....But they are mostly skin...Bad I eat more ad more Ground Chicken and Turkey with my mixes....Ground pork is also so so depending on where you get it depending on the suet they ad... Other than, extra lean everything Just start reading labels Howard... I usually limit myself to 8 grams of sugar or less on all items...... It depends what stage you are at..... Once you really read the labels, you will see where he problem is.... Apple juice is like 28 Grams of sugar... Most Vanners have operating licenses for Blenders... A lot of time, I make my own juice, especially off the bargain rack in the Fruit section Started drinking more vegetable juices, but have to read those labels as well..... You will get there...... Oh Yeah, Heartsmart Margarine, or the heck with ... Real Butter

About three or four days a week I have cereal, but not just cereal....I hate the healthy stuff so I take a large box of Frosted Flakes and mix it with a box of bran flakes, helps cut the sugars and helps the taste of plain bran. I also take a large box of Cheerios and mix it with a box of Frosted Cheerios. I also liked the Rice Krispies with strawberries but they've quit making it so I'm trying to create my own. I am also a junk food junkie so in addition to walking back and forth all day at work, I walk every night so I can have (in moderation, that's the key) a few cookies or something with my night time meds. Keeps my A1C levels between 5.5 and 6. And then a few days a week I have eggs and bacon or french toast and sausage or waffles. Seems to work, but once again.....the key is moderation.

V-8 is a good sub--and fruit juices in the morning, veggie ones later in the day. Grapefruit is bad with lots of meds, but other citrus is okay. WATER is a great beverage choice!
Soft margarine of any kind is not really good, but look for one with the lowest fat and cholesterol content. Remember, the body processes REAL foods best (butter is a real food and it comes no-salt!)--that is what we were built to utilize, not those chemical products they sell us! Use pure fruit spreads with no sugar on your toast! No poptarts!
Fish--great if broiled, grilled, baked or poached--no fried fish! Chicken--boneless skinless breast meat cooked with the same methods. Pork--pork loin is a very lean meat. Also, boneless center cut chops, again, broiled, grilled, baked or poached. Turkey--yes you can buy it all year round--breast and ground. Same methods. Beef--you really want to limit your beef intake. As you are just getting started on the whole new menu thing--your doctor probably doesn't want you to go there--but I know reality is in the world--LEAN cuts like tenderloin, top rounds. You can also find 93% fat free ground beef, but I say stay away from all ground meats--many unfriendly things can be hidden in them.I wouldn't have beef but once every 7-10 days or so.
Shellfish can be very high in cholesterol.
General Mills makes whole grain cereals and the Cheerios is an excellent choice--but be cautious of the flavors--honey is sugar to the body, frosted-see below.
Howard, you will have to start packing a lunch and some snacks to take on the road with you. That way you know what you are getting and won't have to hurt your grey matter trying to figure it out.
Starlord--you are a nutritional challenge! Frosted on any kind of cereal is just French for sugar!
And for all of you 'tightwads' out there--as far as the expense goes--is it less expensive to buy $3 juice, or have $300 worth of meds every month?!?!? You tell me....look for the sales!
That should keep you busy at the grocery for a while! The next list will come with a bill!!! hee hee

I'm still working on a little something, something, for ya. Bad weather coming home from Florida prevented me from picking up a little something, something.

Thanks for reminding all of us of some of the fundamentals which are so easy to forget when our lives start getting busy. One thing to remember - the body is an awesome machine that we need to take care of; we do everything for our VANS to keep them running smooth, why don't we do it for our bodies??? | | | Re: more medical adventures | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! When they gave me all the guidlines of what to eat or not eat and to only eat three meals a day, they neglected to realize that I am not heavy for my size and I lost a pound a day and by the end of the first week after my diagnosis I was totally famished......went back and saw a dif. nutritionist and was told I was the exception to the rule since I have a high metabolism and am on the go all day long so they told me to eat snacks and eat regular meals but once again, do stuff in moderation and try to eat as healthy as I can. So far it's been working for 7 years now. My favorite beverage has become water instead of Pepsi though. Oh! Howard, by the way, make sure to get your eyes checked every year by an Ophthalmologist to make sure there is nothing going on caused by the diabetes. Also, keep an eye on your feet to make sure nothing bad is going on there. I get checked twice a year where they poke me with a monofiliment to make sure my nerves are still good.
