We used to have a 84 e-150 with a little 300 inline 6. I installed a locker in there and got rid of the little single barrel carb for a 4 barrel on an Offenhauser intake. I also made it non computer controlled, but did manage to keep the EGR and air injection system running..

Around year 2000 We stopped driving it due to financial issues right after buying our house (Yolanda was out of work for 9 months).. Afterwards we just let the van sit... for years..

After 8 year or so I unloaded the van...

Less than 6 months later I found what I always wanted.... a Ford Quadravan (pathfinder conversion).. We picked up a 78 ford e-250 pathfinder Quadravan 4x4 for $1100. I knew the motor was iffy, along with the rest of the van..

We have since rebuilt the motor and transmission and are still in the process of doing lots of work on it. Its primary lot in life will be a tow vehicle for the off-road rig, and a place to camp. Camping in the Van is almost always better than camping in a tent..

The Van as she was when we brought her home...
[Linked Image]

First thing we did was pull, and rebuilt the motor.. Its a 460 motor using a 71 timing set and a Voodoo 61600 cam and a Holley 600cfm carb.

New motor as it was being put in.

Proudly flying the gas guzzler flag...
[Linked Image]

We still have a long way to go, but she is on the road and has the first real towing job coming up in 5 weeks (400 miles each way)..

Rest of the pics I have of the van are here.. Clicky

Colorful, I have to give you that, I have never seen that color scheme on an engine. I hope it runs as good as it looks It must have taken a long time to think out the colors as it did the components. It sounds like a runner. Hope to see it in person soon. welcome and look in here for an event near you and bring that thing and let us see it in person and meet.

Cheers!

Thanks for the welcome all..

I always knew there had to be a large van community out there.. and I've been lurking here since I picked up this van... Lots of great info and stories here..

also... This is actually my 2nd Lego style motor (thats what people seem to call it)..

the 1st was a 4.0 ohv that is in our '92 explorer (the off-road rig)..
[Linked Image]

I like to paint the motors so I can see the leaks.. When I built the 4.0 I had the idea of why not do something a little different.. Now the motor matches.. I mean I wheel an Explorer and tow with a 4x4 Van..

I have never seen anything like it ...Ever. It is pretty cool . every time I look at this engine I smile ....It "is" unusual. Hopefully you will have no leaks. What kind of paint do you use ??? I didn't know they made those colors in high heat engine paint..? I just cant wait to see it in person.

We are in a little town in Southern Az call Vail. Its just southeast of Tucson.

As for the paint questions...
I used Duplicolor Engine Enamel
The colors on the Van motor are Aluminum, Ford Red, Ford Blue, Grabber Green, and Daytona Yellow and a little black. The Coil is flourescant green, but I think I'm going to change that color, it doesn't match...

As for being different. How's this.. The Radiator is out of a Freightliner.. think Fedex or UPS truck. I had to make my own upper radiator mounts and modify the lower ones and used part of an exhaust pipe as a piece of the lower radiator hose.. The Previous owner put in that radiator, but they used bailing wire to hold it in. Oh yea, I had to make a upper radiator hose holder so it wouldn't be able to bounce into the fan when I take it off-road.

That yellow reminds me of what Dodge used to paint the slant sixes back in the early 60's.

Oh my! I took one look and said LEGO myself and then read that you call it that too. I laughed my ass off that my "creativity" matched.

As for:

I would change it to copper or brass (or even plastic). I have read a few people have picked up some chrome plated brass pieces from plumbing supply houses, as used on old 2-piece toilets and restaurant sinks. Would look sharp and not have to worry as much about rust.

But awesome man. LOVE one-off stuff and this is definitely right up my alley!

yay and welcome
