The newer models you don't need to be certified for, because they won't fire unless they detect body temp and no pulse. Once you hook up the leads, they run pretty much all by themselves. They even speak now, and tell you step by step what to do.
According to US law, once a person is unconsious, you have the right to administer any attempts necessary to save them, even if they have a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) order. If you have a defibrillator, the operator of the unit must be on the phone with a 911 operator during the procedure.
I highly recommend that everyone who has the opportunity to take a CPR course, to please do it, and hope you never have to use it. If you're planning to take a first aid course, don't forget to also take a Bloodbourne Pathogens course. In this day and age, saving someone's life could cost you your own.

My wife (Judy) is a cardiac nurse and attends some N.E.V.C. events and esp. LMDW in Ny. Has always said she would like one herself. We just don't have the money to put out due to our hospital bills ! You not only get the defib but a heck of a lot more. We paid around $1200.00 for the medical team to be on site 24/7 at the Nats in Altamont and that was for 5 days and 4 nights. Just sell more raffle tickets throughout the year or be creative to raise the funds.

If any clubs made money at any of their eVANt's this year, donate some money to the fund.....we will need about 1700.00 all together with training multiple people..... The machine will then be Vanner expressed wherever possible so it can be at Multiple eVANt's that way... As well, hopefully the Councils are going to raise money for a machine to go with their members where ever they go..... In that way I hope to see multiple machines at the Natz... the more the merrier

Its no secret that even Younger and Healthy individuals Have Heart attacks. Each event should consider, how long it would take a Medical Team to reach their event, to determin how many would be needed.
