I hoisted the lift arms up as far as they go and aimed them inward and loaded them with 2X4's and made a platform for Linda to sit and have a better and more comfortable angle to help me sock that visor down. I have never had a leak before and do not want to start now. It really helped and those of you that do have a lift make sure you get ALL the tools off the 2X4's before you take it all apart. A KING SIZE screwdriver almost fell off the platform onto Phoenix's hood when we were taking them down, If it haddn't have been for a Hail Mary effort By me and catching the tool three inches before contact with the hood ....OMG I would have shot myself...I really do not know how or why I caught it, but I did somehow, My luck is not that good . It just was yesterday... I think if I block the platform up a couple more inches I can drive the van underneith it all and have a wax job done right on the top without risking scratching the sides.

Thats a no, no, at my work. But I suppose if I were off the clock, it wouldn't be so bad. I should check with him, to see if I could wax my roof that way. | | | Re: a New Use for Lift ("Socking" the visor down?) | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 936 Likes: 36 old hand | old hand Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 936 Likes: 36 | "socking the visor down"....do you mean "tighting" the visor's mounting screws down?

Recently purchased (10-2021) a 1991 Chevy G-20 “Shorty”. Past vans are a 1976 Chevy G-10 (purchased new in 1976 & sold in 1995). A 1978 Chevy G-20 Shorty purchased in 2010 and sold in 2015.

Yeah, that's a no-no (against OSHA regs) BUT they make a "man platform" for on forks that IS allowed. Its a lot like a small platform from a scissor lift. Railings, safety chains and all. I used that all the time to get in the ductwork at the battery plant I used to work at. Phoenix, if you make a permanent platform for up there, you can just drive back and forth under it while the Missus runs the buffer. Great setup you've got. I want a lift!

Yea and my boss is pretty anal about the fork truck being used as a seat as someone forgot to lower the forks down and we got busted on it when a surprized vist from inspector showed up at least we did not get a fine.
