When the engine is cold, oil pressure shows about 1/8th of the gauge (gauge reads 0-400), but when it warms up, the gauge reads zero, even when I rev the motor.

Shouldn't zero oil pressure lead to catastrophic engine failure? It's been like that for 70,000kms.... Bad sender maybe?

Get your self a mech oil pressure guage, hook it up where stock sending unit is threaded in and see what you've really got. What brand/weight oil and brand of filter are you using? Beings as it's been like this for so long I'm thinking it's more than likely the sending unit or guage. If it hasn't started knocking, ratteling, howeling by now it's probably ok internaly.Good luck

I would venture to say if the oil pressure really was zero PSI, it would be knocking like crazy. Do you hear any noises?

I'd bet on a bad sender or a bad wire. Yes with zero oil pressure the engine would not last very long.

had a 73 pontiac once that i drove 400 miles on 5 psi of oil pressure. lol.. stupid red lights.. although, anything off idle would shut the light off, so.. never saw the light unless i was at a red light.. when i finally pulled it apart to put in a new pump, the bearings were still in excellent shape.. i kept them for years to show people.. put new ones in anyways.

Yeah..... I know I know.... It's NOT a van... But if you squint, It could be a REALLY long van?
