OK, in readers' rides I posted I got an aftermarket hood for my 05 Ford complete with scoops. Here's the problem, I put it on tonight, easy, four bolts and the old one's off, same four and the new one's on. Then I spent the next 2 1/2 hours trying to get it to close. I got it lined up but when I try to shut it, it goes as far as the safety latch and no matter what I try to do I can not get it to drop down the rest of the way to hook shut! Any ideas? It doesn't seem to be hitting anything, just cann't get it right.

Jump up and down on it lol

Try moving the hinge location forward or back a bit (they are slotted right?) It may be that the safety is not centered in the opening.

Tried both, had the bump stops all the way screwed in, and the hinges (at the body, it's the only place they're slotted) adjusted several dif. ways. no luck. It's like the latching assembly won't go down far enough to catch. Didn't try standing on it but I did let it slam as hard as I could and also tried pushing it down with as much force as I could. I used those same four bolts and took it back off for now, will look at it when it's not a hundred + degrees out. I also took several things off the engine to see if they were in the way, like the power steering fluid container mount and stuff like that. Ahhhh, the trials and tribulations of the person that hates to have the same look as everyone else.

I think Monday I'll call Dynamax in Elkhart and see if I can talk to the person that actually put them on the vehicles to see if they have any thoughts on the subject. That's a polite way of saying that I'm gonna call them and see if they can tell me how the Hell to get it to work!

It's going to be something that is so obvious that you missed it. The temps don't help, either!

Can you shim the latching assembly so it sits up a little further?

Damn! I knew I should have set that pony keg someplace else!
Headlight or grill assembly isn't in the way, cann't get it down quite far enough to even wory about hitting that. I am thinking of looking at the edges though to see if they hang down further than stock and not allowing the hood to go down any further, I thought of looking at that last night but have not looked at it yet. I'm still going to call Dynamax tomorrow to see if they have any ideas.

They will probably suggest that you buy one of their motorhomes....

Check the edges, especially by rear of the hood as that is where it will hit first typically, the lower the hood goes, the farther foward you probably need to check. Also, get something like silly putty and make small balls or clyniders out of it and place it in places where you suspect the clearance issue might be and then slowly close the hood. Reopen and see which ones were smashed.

yeah that is what I was going to suggest... you may need to shim the catch pin for the latch up a little, the hood may have a slightly different pitch to it.. I know my factory hood takes a little extra to get it to latch due to some of the hardware that gets relocated elsewhere when BB put in.

It's on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Pics to follow sometime this weekend. Lots of work, rubber seal at the rear of hood in firewall area went away, hammered a couple spots flatter at the rear edge of the top bellow where that rubber went, relocated pisser juice hose, shimmed the hood latch OUT a ways and let it slam. Closes and lines up. Put the bug shield on it and didn't close......slammed it a little harder and it closed again.....then I noticed it didn't close after the bug shield addition because now the bug shield hits pretty good on the top edge of the headlight blackouts. Oh well, that's a worry for another day, I'll fix it when I take it back off to paint it!
