There are car custom companies selling hinges for gullwinging a car door, they look similar to a hide away hinge found on cabinets, would need to see one at a car show to get a better look but SEMA is too far from me. | | | Re: Slider changed to Gullwing? | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,695 veteran | veteran Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,695 | Unless you've seen different one than I have, those "gullwing" hinges are the biggest pieces of crap you'd ever waste your money on. They are poorly made, can't be adjusted and fall apart in no time at all. I had a customer bring me a set for his Altima. I ended up using household hinges in their place as they were made better. I also did 90 degree Lambo doors on the front. Have you done a mid Ford, I'd like to see pictures of one. | | | Re: Slider changed to Gullwing? | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! Ripper, those hinges on the Astro were sweet, but as Maples said, head room on the side of the van may be an issue. Would work great in the rear though. Heartbreaker used hinges from a rear hatch from a VW bus and modified them to look really nice. New body style Fords cannot use a piano hinge. The side of the van has too much of a curve to it to use one. Cliff, the actuator I bought on eBay. The pillow blocks and the round shaft I bought from www.McMasterCarr.com and everything else I used from my factory doors or I made. | | | Re: Slider changed to Gullwing? | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 28,125 Madman! | Madman! I guess I'm gonna have to find someone capable of doing it now. | | | Re: Slider changed to Gullwing? | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,695 veteran | veteran Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,695 | Too bad you're so far away RipperServing NYC/LI 347-303-7403 | | | Re: Slider changed to Gullwing? | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 3,601 Likes: 10 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 3,601 Likes: 10 | Yeah, it's killing me, never knew I'd have so much trouble with one item in it, but I've been driving it a lot, just can't have anyone with me. | | |
