I am really surprised on the different beer prices from State to State, and where you need to buy them. ABC's, grocery stores, distributors. For example, a 30 pack of Keystone light is 18.99 in Texas, where I have seen it elsewhere for 11.99

So as a test, we need Vanner's to research the beer prices on the following brands in their respective States, and where it is available at, so out of State Vanner's attending your eVANT, can decide where to buy on the road.....Less money on the road, equals more at your eVANt.. Please also State bottle or can deposit....

Texas, no deposit, bought in grocery stores and liquor stores

Keystone light, 30 pack cans, 18.99

Miller Genuine Draft 12 pack Long necks 11.49

Coors Lite 18 pks, cans, 14.49

Budweiser select, 12 long necks, 12.49

Please keep on these brands only so that Vanner's have a fair comparison when they go to different states on fair pricing, and keep the OMG's and WTF's out

cheers

Good idea...In Illinois, we can buy beer at liquor stores, grocery stores, Wal mart, K mart, convenience stores, and gas stations. Many bars also sell carry out. No deposit on cans or bottles. Prices do vary quite a bit from county to county. Cook County (Chicago) has a 10% sales tax and a "sin tax" on alcohol and cigarettes. DuPage (where I live) is 9%. Will County ( a bit farther out) is 7%. I will check exact prices on the brands mentioned tomorrow, as I don't watch the beer here-Molson at Duty free is 14.50 for 24 cans! I did notice Bacardi 1.75 today. I was at 3 stores in 2 counties. 16.99, 18.99, 19.99. Bar closing times vary widely by town around here, also. You can go for a cocktail at one place, close it at 2 am, go a mile away, close one at 4 am, travel a few blocks to close one at 6 am, and by that time the first one is open for breakfast! There are also towns that allow the bartender to lock you IN at 5 am when they close-that way you are ready when they reopen at 6 am!

Then, of course, there's always the vanner or so who just buys the ingredients and makes his own! I'm really not the right person to ask about beer prices. I DO know that 5lbs. of grain goes for about $6.00. I can make a 5 gallon batch for about 25 bucks. That comes out to 9 six packs. That's about $2.78 a sixer.

I can't remember what I paid for beer the last time i bought a case. I'll have to check so I can contribute to this. I'm pretty sure a sixer of budweiser cans goes for 5.49 here.

I go to Truck-ins. How about you?

Dead Guy Ale is choice but close to 10 bucks for a sixer, I rarely get the chance to indulge. Blue Moon(yes with an orange wedge please) is a favorite too around the 7-8 dollar range.

Im gonna order a Rogue Dead Guy Ale Beer Kit cost 44.95 and it makes up to 5 gallons.

I cant wait to try it!

hhmmmm....I wrote a whole article on this for On the Trail back when--sure would be nice if I ran across it just now!! hee hee

Anyhoo--
Indiana--grocery stores have beer and wine--only not chilled
drug stores have some beer choices, wine and some basic liquor--vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, to kill ya, Bailey's. Again, not chilled.
Liquor stores--buy it all! Beer and wine may be purchased chilled here.

Liquor sales are cut off during the week at like 11 pm. NO liquor sales on Sunday--you must buy your 'Sunday beer' on Saturday! Plan ahead if you need to!

Restaurants and bars may sell on Sundays as long as they also have food to sell. I believe a Bloody Mary can be served with brunch at noon!

Prices--run about the same as neighboring states--also, we have many more choices than just a year ago and there are also quite a few small breweries in the state you can go to--3 Floyd's in Munster, Upland in Bloomington for examples.
Big Red Liquors in Bloomington is one of our favortite liquor stores--we make a special trip every so often..

Suzie

As my friend Tim learned last year, when going to Canada, buy yor beer or liquor at the duty free at the border. 24 cans there are about 15 bucks. At the Beer Store, roughy 40 bucks. Liquor is a bit higher at the duty free, but HOLEEEEEEEEE Crap at the liquor stores. Like about 50 bucks for a 1.75 of Bacardi!!!!!

When crossing the border, you are allowed a case of beer OR a bottle of liquor per person over 21. If you declare it, chances are they will let a bit over slide, within reason. If they require you to pay duty, it's still less than the store prices. If you don't declare it and they search your van and find it, then you are smuggling...that can cause any number of problems from being turned back to losing the booze to arrest, depending on your attitude, and theirs.

All that is my personal observation, gathered over 35 years and hundreds of border crossings!

I like vodka myself. Here in PA the BIG bottle is $24.99 right now for SKYY. The same size bottle of Grey Goose is $56.99. SKYY is made here in the good ole USA and is distilled just as many times. Top shelf. Drink all you want, just take 3 asprin with a pint of water before you pass out, and NO hangover tomorrow. The Grey Goose is made in France. Like I say today and often, F*CK THE FRENCH!
