Hi Vanners. Here are some of my latest pics of my van. So far I have run low 10s at 130 MPH on half of my nitrous! My main limiting factor at this point is I have been running 8" rims with 10" tires. (not enough traction).. So I have widened my rims 4" on the inside. Same tires. I lowered the van at least 3 more inches. I cut out all of the leaf springs and some of my steel floor, loosing another 200 lbs. I now have ladder bars and coil over shocks. I also freshened up the engine and a lot of other modifications! Wow! I,ll be at Detroit Autorama this year with some other very cool vans. Come check us out! I would like to do a full story on my van when I get a chance. I hope the vanners would like it. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed. I should be running in the nines this year! See ya! Great work on the suspension! Just ladderbars and coilovers... I have wondered if the frame could handle relocating the weight-bearing suspension point (leafs to coilover). Did you have to beef up the shock mounts?

This is probably old hat to you, but I'd love to learn a little. Thanx and great job!

The van looks awesome Dave. Looks like it is sitting just about right now. What is the aluminum tank in front of the rear suspension? Did you move the one from under the hood? Keep us posted,Brad

Get that Econo ready Gary!!! We,ll show you how to party in Detroit!...This thing just might come together after all.....Suzie. Are you sure your ready for a ride in this van? Be careful what you wish for! Lol!!........Cory. Just ladder bars and coil overs? Belive me..That is enough. If you only knew.... The original shock mounts are removed and the coil overs mount to a new chromoly cross bar. The shocks actually come through the floor about a inch. Here are a few more pics of the construction. Maybe I,ll get into it in a little more detail later. Stay tuned! [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

That's awesome... by putting a "solid" crossmember for a relocated shock mount, it would spread the weight distribution through the frame... instead of being focussed on the leaf spring mounts... is that right? Could the same principle work on an early? Oh, man, that could be an excellent mod for an early with leafs on all four corners!

Does that coil-over setup improve rear traction (keep the rear glued down and tracking straighter) over the leaf setup? Did you run before with the stock suspension?

Great pics!

Yepper I'm sure Dave!
I am known to hubby sometiimes as 'speedracer!!' hee hee
I usually drive faster than him--and there is proof that I can handle the T/A at somewhat over the 'limit' on the posted speed limits here--I only had to answer to what they had for a number tho! hee hee

I promise to bring my own 'pad!' Would hate to get the seat all wet!

Wow, great fab on the wheels. Did they use rolled flat stock or pipe for the additional inches?

Curious about the holes cut in the floor further up. Did you fill it back in with a lighter panel or is this rig set up full race only and left out?
I figure the rear ones are probably battery/fuel cell and the area around the rear is obviously for the suspension improvements.

You do some darn good work Dave, very impressive indeed. My hat is off to you. laugh
