Ok I've been running this idea by some of the vanners we don't see on the forum heres. I'd like to be able to talk to each and every council rep about it, but would not have this opportunity until next February in Anaheim.

Could you people get the idea out to your council reps and bring it up at your council meetings. We will be doing this at our meeting in April and may be the first region (Ontario region of Canada) to get the ball rolling.

It will not be something that will forced down any council's throat, if a council (region) wants to participate in this that would be great.

Let's put the Vanner of the Year idea on the back burner until the Hall of Fame is underway. The Vanner Hall of Fame could ruffle enough feathers, the vanner of the year award may be a bit much to pursue at this point.

Just to let you know I am still plugging away at this single handedly and for all the right reasons. If you have any doubt in your minds wether this is the case, please send me an email or come and talk to me at the Nats.
Just got an email back from Terry Cook on this. This is something that would not have happened a few years ago when I was one the most outraged about the Automobile Magazine article he wrote back in the late 90's. They printed 2% of my reply in the letters to the editor. Given that, I have realized over time that what you see in print is not always what was intended or originally written. Terry has been very insightful in his reply and I hope to continue this dialogue. He has been one of the few who have made any attempt at a history of vanning. That is where this will all lead to, to properly document our history, not for commercial purposes, but just to get the stories right.

No council or individual has come forward offering to push this idea in their regions.

Yup I need help. Ken maybe you could run the idea by the vanners in the Northeast and in Pa. this weekend to see what their feelings are about it. (your stuff is being prepared as I write this).
CactusDoug, not sure when the next run is out your way, but I'd really like Camel's feedback on it. (also try to get Ton to send me an email if he wants a calendar I have had one set aside for him for a while).
If anyone else wants to help getting the word out about this and then get back to me with any ideas that come up through these discussions.

OK Doug, I'll call Camel and talk to her, and I'll get Tom to E Mail you. The next run out here is the "Summer Madness Uprising" May 13 - 15 at the Lake Perris Fair Grounds. We won't be able to attend, Rita and I are taking the Aerostar on a road trip to Oklahoma. We'll be leaving early Saturday morning the 14th and won't be back home until Monday the 23rd. We're going to visit some of Rita's relatives and also going to do a little looking around at properties. Rita can retire from her job in 2 years, and California is getting so screwed up we will be moving to Oklahoma. I can sell our house here for an obscene amount of money and buy a place there cheap and have a nice bank account as a back up to our retirement incomes. Plus I'll be able to make it to some of the Mid-West and Eastern Van runs. [Big Grin] CD
