Caprices have been long used as Cop cars, taxi cabs, city limos, municipality cars and daily drivers for 80% of the blue hairs (little old ladies) in this country. They're are so many of them they're commonly used in crash derbies or beater cars or first cars for youngins.
However, the one you provided is a fine example of one as its friggin prestine but over on our side of the pond they're about as rare as grass in a park. If you're really into them, I'm sure somewhere on the net there is a Caprice Enthusiast forum. Hope you find what you're looking for, they are really solid cars just very common here. | | | Re: really nice caprice #12649 December 16th 2004 6:44 pm | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 6,261 Bad Girls from New York, Bad Western Inn in IN. | Bad Girls from New York, Bad Western Inn in IN. I feel like some of us rained on your parade and I (and probably others)didnt mean to do that persay, its more of a "not being able to relate" kinda thing. Is it the Caprice in general, or big 4 door sedans you're into? I remember your story about how you got into Vanning and how you said there is an appreciation over there for American automobiles but I dont think I took it to the full extent. I just figured the same cars that are popular here were the ones sought after over there as well. Streetrods, Hotrods, Ratrods, Racers and Restored Classic Muscle is all big on this side of the pond. | | | Re: really nice caprice #12652 December 17th 2004 11:16 pm | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 4,338 vantooner | vantooner Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 4,338 | Here's a GM boat with some funky stylin'. (I know it's not a van, but i couldn't resist) | | | Re: really nice caprice #12653 December 17th 2004 11:41 pm | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 161 member | OP member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 161 | The caprice is a very exotic car in sweden. That car i gave a link to, in the top of this discussion would cost about $7000 in sweden. But in sweden they are getting expensive to own. High insurance and so on. An old rusty 77 caprice cost about $2500, but are ugly as hell then.
But you gave me some good information, if i want and old caprice, and are planning to buy it in USA and bring it to sweden, im not going to be in a hurry. Beacuse they are not so poular in USA anymore. And maybe they will sell it cheap. A caprice is like our volvo 240, a car every person owned when they were made.
But im not going to buy one now. I have the van i must do some things with, and i will not sell it. Maybe in two years will i buy a caprice so i can keep the van to.
I really hate modern cars, just a lot of computers that malfunction in them. A caprice and nearly the van to, has no computer stuff.
The most beautiful caprice is 77-78, 4 door or 2 door doesen´t matter. I just love all the chrome stuff. It´s fun to polish. And the seats are like a sofa at home.
I think the swedish volvo xc90 will be popular in USA. They are making them with V8 now. Most because the want to sell a lot of them in USA. But it takes a lot of gasoline have i heard, 1,3 liters for 10 kilometers. Thats much for a modern car. Volvo has made their own V8, it´s not 90 degree, it´s 60 or something. | | |
