Hey everyone, just wanted to share my joy and show you my "new to me" seats. My van is going to be a long project but with the stock "delivery model lowbacks" something had to be done. I've recently had the pleasure of helping out a guy thats a Range/Land Rover specialties Mechanic. He was nice enough to let me loose in his parts yard to find a set of seats I liked. With sawzall in hand I was able to cut these out. - I'm going to have to fab some seating brackets up since the pedastal in the Van is smaller than the electric rails for the seats but they're really comfortable and with new skin I think they'll really look good. Input is always appreciated but I just had to show someone. [Smile]

nice find man, whenever i mount seats i normally just weld together an angle iron frame that the tracks will bolt to , and then depending on what vehicle it is i make the main mount . like on my friends dodge van he has the swivel bases , so i welded an angle iron frame to the swivel base , drilled some holes and mounted 2 camaro seats in there , he loves em ......granted when he bought the van there was no passenger seat and the driver seat was an office chair held on with one bolt .

Nice seats dude. Although I don't have any pictures to post (no camera), I too had to replace my disgusting factory-issue "delivery-model lowbacks" with junkyard replacements. I scored highback captains chairs from a newr Dodge, and swivel-reclining pedistals from a Chevy for a reasonable price ($60 for everything).

This got me to wondering about my other junkyard journeys, and was wondering if others could post some of your best junkyard finds?

Nice seats FroOch.

Post some pics when you get them installed.

Bondo... an office chair held on with one bolt.

Now that's funny, but I guess it's better than an old Milk Crate, one of my friends had one of those for a while. LOL

yeah , it made for an interesting ride

i eventually want new seats for my van , or i want the ones i have fixed , they're so 70's , brown vinyl with baby puke green shag seating areas , they're under covers tho because they're all torn up . thing is my van doesn't have the standard swivel bases , just these big metal cylinders that are part of the floor that the seats bolt to via one bolt in the middle of the cylinder....is that stock or was someone doing some mods on this back in 76 ? none of the other chevy seats i've seen have bases like these , then again this is my first van this old , so i don't really see many of these .

Aftermarket swivel pedestal....no longer legal to sell because of safety issues with that one bolt holding everything together...you get the picture.... [Eek!]

Nice seats FroOch! [Smile] Can you post some pix when you get 'em installed? Or maybe a "step by step" tutorial?

Thanks everyone and yeah I'll be posting pictures along the way. I still dont know how I'm going to approach this all yet. I first have to get a buddy of mine to help me rig up a power harness to get them to work. I think what I might do this winter is pull the dash out and both seats to see the lay out, the wiring harness and the best way to mount these. I've thought about the angle iron route myself but I might build a steal plates to mount ontop of the pedastals that can also support a bandpass speaker box to face the rear of the cargo area. I think overall for the van I'd like hot roddish theme but inside alot of cabinetry, seating and stereo equitment.
